Coming In 2012

I hope you have been having a nice holiday so far!  I thought I’d drop a line or two as we head into the new year...

Next year we’ll add a few new things.

New posts during January will focus more on major artists. It’s fun to see the lesser know, offbeat artists, but there are still dozens of albums and videos for high profile artists to post and I’d like to get them on the blog for you to complete your collections and to see the full spectrum of the comedians’ development over their careers. So more of the new posts will be of established artists. Lesser known comedian and novelty posts will continue, of course.

 

If you’ve been paying attention, I’ve been tinkering with the post layout, once again with the goal of making posts easier to navigate.

 

“This Day In Comedy” has been added, with a few of our blog readers volunteering to provide research material this past year (thanks again.) There are many sites dedicated to honoring comedians, and entertainers in general; many of these people have rich life stories. I’ve decided to honor them one or two days a year with bite-size pieces of information since I am guessing that your visits to the site last, on average, around a minute or so, if that.

My commitment to this blog will stay at the level it has been since late 2008. So look for more fun things in 2012.

		Died this day in 1987, Robert Paige,actor, Colgate Comedy Hour. Film’s Bye Bye Birdie, Hellzapoppin’. Born  12/02/1910, he died of aortic aneurysm at 77.

		Born this day in 1869, Stephen Leacock English-born Canadian writer, humorist. In the early part of 20th century, was best-known humorist in the English-speaking world. He died 03/28/1944 of throat cancer at 74.

		Born this day in 1931, Billy Baxter, comedian Ed Sullivan Show, Mike Douglas Show. He died 04/23/2009 at age 77.
Born this day in 1956, Fred MacAulay, age 55, Scottish comedian.
		Died this day in 2003, Bob Monkhouse, Kent England, comedian, talented ad-libber. Born 06/01/1928, he died of prostate cancer at 75.

		Born this day in 1941, Johnny Otis, age 70, American singer, musician, talent scout, disc jockey,  He is commonly referred to as the "Godfather of Rhythm and Blues".
Born this day in 1913, Lou Jacobi, Toronto Ontario, character actor, comedian, Dean Martin Show. He died 10/23/2009 at age 95.
		Born this day in 1950, Øivind Blunck, age 61, Norwegian comedian and actor.
Born this day in 1911, Sam Levenson, NYC humorist, Sam Levenson Show, Masquerade Party. He died 08/27/1980 of heart attack at age 68.
		Born this day in 1954, Tony Rosato, age 57, Naples Italy, comedian SCTV, SNL.

Died this day in 1992, Cardew Robinson, British comic, whose craft was rooted in the music hall and Gang Shows. Born 08/14/1917, he was 75.

Died this day in 1997, Ronnie Williams Welsh actor, comedian. Born 03/29/1929, he committed  suicide at 68.

Born this day in 1921, Steve Allen, originated "Carnak" type Q&A act, man-on-the-street interviews, filming unsuspecting passersby. He died 10/30/2000 from haemopericardium, blood around heart, unrecognized after a car accident, at age 78.
		Died this day in 1986, Elsa Lanchester an English-American character actress,  Disney films, bride (of Frankenstein and actor Charles Laughton). Born 10/28/1902, she died of bronchopneumonia at 84.
Died this day in 1974, Jack Benny, American comedian, vaudevillian, and actor for radio, television and film. Born 02/14/1894 he died from pancreatic cancer at 80.

		Died this day in 1977, Charlie Chaplin, comedian, pioneer, The Tramp,  City Lights, icon, his image was used as an IBM salesman. Born 04/16/1889, he died in his sleep at 88.
Died this day in 1995, Dean Martin was an American singer, film actor, television star, teamed with Jerry Lewis. Born 06/07/1917, he died from respiratory failure resulting from emphysema at 78.
		Died this day in 2003, Nicola Paone, humorous songs, Italian folk songs. whose style influenced Louis Prima. Born 10/15/1915, he died from pneumonia at 88.
