Each child in my son's kindergarten class was asked to complete these "well known" (to us) phrases:

A stitch in time...                 if I can sew.
Cleanliness is next to...           a box.
Bigger they are the harder they...  get.
Don’t count your chickens...        now.
All work and no play...             I would play.
Better safe than...                 walking in front of the car.
Loaf of bread, bottle of wine, &... cookies.
People who live in glass houses...  are weird.
People who live in glass houses...  are Indians.
Better safe than...                 monkey bars.
The grass is always greener than... the trees.
You can’t have your cake...         or your apple.
Better late than...                 better.
Every cloud has...                  rain.

Children should be seen...          but not in the street.
No news is...                       bad.
Beauty is only...                   beautiful.
The early bird catches...           the seeds.
